What the paper headbands are for
Antlers or a crown on your head turn a nativity play, a school show or a Christmas party into a costume party in a minute. The headbands look great in family photos by the tree, and with the pages to color, children decorate their own front before they put it on.
How to make a headband
- Print the pages at 100% scale (not “fit to page”) on 160–200 gsm paper – thin paper bends and the antlers droop.
- Cut out a front along the solid line together with its decoration, in one piece, and two side strips: one with the scale and one with dots.
- Put glue stick or tape on a grey field at the end of the front and lay the end of a side strip on it, up to the inner edge of the field. Do the same at the other end – the strip with the scale by its end nearer 46.
- Measure the head round the forehead and above the ears with a tape measure, or simply try the headband on.
- At the back, lay the end of the dotted strip on the number of the head's circumference on the scale and glue or tape it down.
- A stapler holds best, but only a grown-up uses it – the flat side of the staple against the head, its bent ends facing out.
Before the show, write each child's name on the back of the front. Glue dries in a few minutes; with tape the headband can go on at once. On thick paper, colored pencils or thick felt-tips work best.
