How to make the reindeer food bags
- Print at 100% scale, ideally on thicker paper; page 2 also works on A4 sticker paper.
- Cut out the toppers and the labels along the thin lines.
- Fill a small bag (up to about 8.5 cm wide) with reindeer food and write your name after “From:”.
- Fold the topper along the dashed line over the top of the bag and staple it shut – or stick a label on a bigger bag or a jar.
- On Christmas Eve, before bed, sprinkle the food on the lawn or the balcony in front of the house.
Reindeer food recipe
- A cup of rolled oats
- A spoonful of red or green colored sugar
- Or a spoonful of bird seed instead of the sugar
Mix everything in a bowl and spoon it into the bags.
No glitter or sequins: in the morning, birds and other animals eat what is left, and plastic harms them. No chocolate, raisins or grapes either – they are poisonous to dogs.
For grown-ups: the same topper on a bag of sweets is a small gift for someone at work – in Germany, “Rentierfutter” is exactly that. The sweets are for people and never go on the lawn.
