Tips for decorating a real tree
- Go in this order: lights first, then the garland, then the ornaments – and the topper last.
- Hang big baubles deep inside, near the trunk, and small ones at the tips: the tree looks full and deep.
- Use LED lights: they stay cool and use far less power.
- Water a real tree every day and keep it away from radiators, heaters and the fireplace – a dry tree catches fire easily.
- Hang glass ornaments high, out of reach of small children and pets; put unbreakable ones on the lower branches.
- Step back and squint: dark gaps show where a few more lights or baubles should go.
