Where the custom comes from
The magic key for Santa is a family custom from English-speaking countries, mostly the United States and Britain. It answers a child’s question: how does Santa get in if the house has no chimney? The key, hung on the door on Christmas Eve, lets only him in.
How to make the magic key
- Print at 100% scale on thicker paper (160–250 g/m²), or glue the printout onto thin cardboard.
- Color the key and the tag – or use the ones in color from page 1.
- Cut out the key and the tag along the solid lines, and poke out the small holes with a pencil or a hole punch.
- Thread a ribbon through both holes and tie a bow, so that the tag hangs from the key.
- On Christmas Eve, hang the key on the handle of the front door, or on the tree. An idea for parents: in the morning the key is gone – or it is still there, with a note from Santa.
