Safety tips for real outdoor Christmas lights
- Use only lights marked for outdoor use – indoor lights are not made for rain and snow.
- Check the cables and bulbs before hanging the lights, and throw away any set with a cracked bulb or a damaged cable.
- An adult does the work on the ladder, and someone else holds the ladder steady.
- Plug the lights into an outdoor extension cord and keep the plugs out of snow and puddles.
- Switch the lights off at night or when nobody is home – or use a timer.
