Present Stack: Christmas falling blocks

Shapes made of four presents fall from the night sky. Move and rotate them so they fill whole rows – a full row disappears and scores points, and the stack must not reach the top.

How to play

The left and right arrows or A and D move the shape, the up arrow, W or X rotates it, the down arrow or S drops it faster and Space drops it all the way; P pauses. On a phone, tap the board to rotate, drag a finger sideways to move and swipe down quickly to drop – or use the buttons under the board. A full row disappears: 1, 2, 3 or 4 rows at once score 100, 300, 500 or 800 points times the level, and every 10 rows the shapes fall faster; the game ends when a new shape has no room.

For teachers: the game trains spatial thinking – children turn the shapes in their heads and look for where they fit; on an interactive whiteboard the big buttons under the board are all you need. For the youngest choose Easy: the shapes fall slowly and a shadow shows where each one will land.

Fun fact: the Japanese furoshiki cloth, used to wrap presents for centuries, is named after the bath – in the Edo period people bundled their clothes in it at the public bathhouse (furo means bath).
